The Gospel of Thomas fully interpreted

The best kept secrets revealed

Saying 91: They said to him, "Tell us who you are so that we may believe in you."
He said to them, "You read the face of the sky and of the earth, but you have not recognized the one who is before you, and you do not know how to read this moment."

Meaning: You recognise and understand the things of the world and what is to come in them but you do not recognise that which is of the spiritual (the soul of the son of God) and you do not know how to read this moment. They did not understand that the son of God was there with them and what was to happen.

Saying 92: Jesus said, "Seek and you will find. Yet, what you asked me about in former times and which I did not tell you then, now I do desire to tell, but you do not inquire after it."

Meaning: That which they enquired of in former times and Jesus did not desire to tell them were the questions they had asked God while searching within themselves for the Truth. By asking oneself one is asking the ‘all’. They received no answers then, but Jesus was also a part of the all, and he had the answers to their questions, but now they weren’t asking them.

Saying 93: <Jesus said,> "Do not give what is holy to dogs, lest they throw them on the dung-heap. Do not throw the pearls to swine, lest they [...] it [...]."

Meaning: Do not give my teachings to those who are unable to understand them, for they will be worthless to them and they will treat them as rubbish.

Saying 94: Jesus said, "He who seeks will find, and he who knocks will be let in."

Meaning: He who searches for that which is spiritual will search within and he will find himself. He who requests entry into the kingdom will be let in.

Saying 95: Jesus said, "If you have money, do not lend it at interest, but give it to one from whom you will not get it back."

Meaning: Do not make others indebted to you. Do not seek profit in another person’s poverty. Love is given without the requirement of its return.

Saying 96: Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a certain woman. She took a little leaven, concealed it in some dough, and made it into large loaves. Let him who has ears hear."

Meaning: The dough is the soul the leaven (yeast) is the word of God (love that is truth). To those who have a little, more will be given.

Saying 97: Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a certain woman who was carrying a jar full of meal. While she was walking on the road, still some distance from home, the handle of the jar broke and the meal emptied out behind her on the road. She did not realize it; she had noticed no accident. When she reached her house, she set the jar down and found it empty."

Meaning: The jar is the soul. The meal is the food that the spirit lives on. The road is the path of life. When the soul had reached the end of its journey in the world, it had lost all of that which sustained the soul, it had no spiritual treasure. Its journey was wasted.

Saying 98: Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a certain man who wanted to kill a powerful man. In his own house he drew his sword and stuck it into the wall in order to find out whether his hand could carry through. Then he slew the powerful man."

Meaning: The kingdom of the father is within, it is the soul. The sword is the weapon of Truth. The powerful man is the worldly influence. Those who have a strong belief in Truth are able to test it, and then destroy the influence that is not good and right.

Saying 99: The disciples said to him, "Your brothers and your mother are standing outside." He said to them, "Those here who do the will of my father are my brothers and my mother. It is they who will enter the kingdom of my father."

Meaning: The disciples were speaking of physical relatives, but Jesus knew that the physical body is not of the same nature as the soul, and cannot therefore be related. Those who have come to know themselves as a soul and therefore know God are true family. It is they who enter the kingdom within.
