Saying 11: Jesus said, (A) "This heaven will pass away, and the one above it will pass away. (B) The dead are not alive, and (C) the living will not die. (D) In the days when you consumed what is dead, you made it what is alive. (E) When you come to dwell in the light, what will you do? (F) On the day when you were one you became two. (G) But when you become two, what will you do?"
Meaning:
(A) The spiritual realm that you now find yourself in, and the one that you go to when you leave here, will pass away.
(B) ‘The dead’ refers to those who are not spiritually awake and sleep in forgetfulness, because they have not come to know themselves and the place of their life (which is the soul). They are pulled one way and then another by the world. They think that they are controlling their life, but they are controlled by the world. They are like puppets that do not see the strings that determine their every move. They are like reeds that bend with the wind. They are controlled but do not realise it.
(C) ‘The living’ are those who are awake and in remembrance. They have come to know themselves and the place of their life. They are no longer puppets, for they have seen and cut the strings that controlled them. They are the puppets that became real children.
(D) When you came into your physical body you made it alive for the body cannot live without a soul.
(E) To dwell in the light is to become spiritually awake and aware of the true place of your life.
(F) When you were a soul, you were one. When you went into your physical body, you became two.
(G) When you become a soul and physical body, will you remember that you were a soul?
NB: You have to remember that the when you are one, as a soul, that is your only identity. When you come into a physical body, you then have two identities. ‘What will you do’ refers to which identity will you take on. The soul that takes on the identity of the body is a soul that sleeps in forgetfulness.
Saying 12: The disciples said to Jesus, "We know that you will depart from us. Who is to be our leader?" Jesus said to them, "Wherever you are, you are to go to James the righteous, for whose sake heaven and earth came into being."
Meaning: Heaven and earth were created for the purpose of growing and harvesting of righteous souls. James was one such soul.
Saying 13: Jesus said to his disciples, "Compare me to someone and tell me whom I am like”. Simon Peter said to him, "You are like a righteous angel." Matthew said to him, "You are like a wise philosopher." Thomas said to him, "Master, my mouth is wholly incapable of saying whom you are like." (A) Jesus said, "I am not your master. Because you have drunk, you have become intoxicated from the bubbling spring which I have measured out."
(B) And he took him and withdrew and told him three things. When Thomas returned to his companions, they asked him, "What did Jesus say to you?"
Thomas said to them, (C) "If I tell you one of the things which he told me, you will pick up stones and throw them at me; (D) a fire will come out of the stones and burn you up”.
Meaning:
(A) The soul that has received the Spirit is once again free. It can be seen that Thomas had a greater understanding than the others did, of who Jesus was.
(B) The three things that Jesus told Thomas were:
1. God is not a man
2. Your physical body is the devil.
3. Men and women are equal in the eyes of God
(C) Picking up stones refers to gathering hard words
(D) The fire that would come out of the stones would be anger for which they would have to repent.
NB: Obviously the disciples would not have stoned Thomas for repeating the words of Jesus.
Saying 14: Jesus said to them, (A) "If you fast, you will give rise to sin for yourselves; and (B) if you pray, you will be condemned; and (C) if you give alms, you will do harm to your spirits. When you go into any land and walk about in the districts, if they receive you, eat what they will set before you, and heal the sick among them. (D) For what goes into your mouth will not defile you, but that which issues from your mouth - it is that which will defile you."
Meaning:
(A) If you fast you will be tempted by your physical body and you will hate what you are doing. Hate is the sin that you will give rise to.
(B) Jesus already told them that God knew what their needs were before they asked. To pray would mean that they didn't trust Jesus' word.
(C) The disciples were not yet perfected and giving away part of what little they had would have caused resentment and harmed their spirit.
(D) The food you eat will not harm your spirit but what you say may do so.
Saying 15: Jesus said, "When you see one who was not born of woman, prostrate yourselves on your faces and worship him. That one is your father."
Meaning: The one not born of woman is the soul. The soul is a part of God therefore it is the soul that should be worshipped and not the physical body. It is inner beauty that should be worshipped, not outer beauty.
Saying 16: Jesus said, "Men think, perhaps, that it is peace which I have come to cast upon the world. (A) They do not know that it is dissension which I have come to cast upon the earth: (B) fire, sword, and war. (C) For there will be five in a house: three will be against two, and two against three, the father against the son, and the son against the father. (D) And they will stand solitary."
Meaning:
(A) Dissension is opposition, disagreement, discord, rebellion and conflict.
(B) Fire = the torment of repentance, sword = is the truth that cuts through all deception, and war = is the opposition between light and dark.
(C) When the soul knows its true nature, it will see the true nature of everyone’s soul. The soul will know that the physical body is no more than a servant and will not see a father, a mother, a brother or a sister as family but rather as separate souls.
(D) Each soul will be exposed and its true motives and intentions will be seen. No soul shall be able to stand behind a veil of deceit. The judgement of each person will not be based on the physical body and their possessions but rather, by its goodness and righteousness.
Saying 17: Jesus said, (A) "I shall give you what no eye has seen and what no ear has heard and what no hand has touched and (B) what has never occurred to the human mind."
Meaning:
(A) That which is of the spirit and not the physical.
(B) All things are God. All things that exist are a part of God and even though they are divided and separated, they are still a part of the whole.
Saying 18: The disciples said to Jesus, "Tell us how our end will be."
Jesus said, "Have you discovered, then, the beginning, that you look for the end? (A) For where the beginning is, there will the end be. Blessed is he who will take his place in the beginning; (B) he will know the end and will not experience death."
Meaning:
(A) The end is the end of your soul’s journey. The end is the place where you started. It is the return to the place that you set out from before you came into the world. It can be seen as returning home from the school of life.
(B) To know the end is to be perfected through enlightenment and realise that one is eternal and cannot experience death.
Saying 19: Jesus said, (A) "Blessed is he who came into being before he came into being. (B) If you become my disciples and listen to my words, these stones will minister to you. (C) For there are five trees for you in Paradise (D) which remain undisturbed summer and winter and whose leaves do not fall. (E) Whoever becomes acquainted with them will not experience death."
Meaning:
(A) Blessed are those who were already aware of the all, before they found the all. They are the ones who are aware of the spirit without being told. They seek the Truth by their own desire.
(B) Stones are hard; the teachings of Jesus were hard for his disciples to understand. His words were like stones that would look after and care for them.
(C) Paradise is that which the enlightened soul finds within. The five trees are within the soul’s domain, but are only seen by the enlightened. They are:
1. Awareness
2. Foreknowledge
3. Incorruptibility
4. Everlasting life
5. Truth
(D) Refer to the changing circumstances in ones life i.e. the good times and the bad. The leaves do not fall because the trees are not affected by outside influence.
(E) Whoever finds the five trees will have found paradise and will have found eternal life.
Saying 20: The disciples said to Jesus, "Tell us what the kingdom of heaven is like."
He said to them, "It is like a mustard seed. It is the smallest of all seeds. But when it falls on tilled soil, it produces a great plant and becomes a shelter for birds of the sky."
Meaning: The Kingdom of Heaven is within the soul. When you are spiritually awakening, your soul is like tilled soil and when a small amount of God’s knowledge falls on it, it increases until it is great enough to be a place of rest for other souls.
